Some traditions begin with decades of history. Others begin with one great idea, a few excited anglers, and a fish story worth telling.

In 2026, we introduced a new tradition at Rousseau’s Landing that celebrates the excitement of every cast, every memorable catch, and a little friendly competition along the way: The Friendly Fish Competition.

There are no entry fees. No pressure. And no elaborate prizes. Just the ultimate reward every angler secretly wants—bragging rights.

The Biggest Fish Wins

Throughout the fishing season, guests have the chance to earn a place on our Big Fish Brag Board, proudly displayed in the Fish Hut for everyone to see.

Awards are given for all species caught:

• Northern Pike
• Walleye
• Bass
• Lake Trout
• Whitefish

To make sure anglers of every age have a chance to shine, we recognize two divisions:

• Adults
• Kids (14 years and under)

Whether you’re landing a trophy-sized northern pike or watching your child reel in the fish they’ll talk about for years, every catch becomes part of the story.

More Than a Competition

At Rousseau’s Landing, we’ve always believed fishing is about much more than numbers on a measuring tape. It’s about early mornings on Sandbar Lake, learning from family and friends, celebrating first catches, and sharing laughs back at the dock.

The Friendly Fish Competition simply gives everyone another reason to celebrate those moments together.

You’ll often find guests stopping by the Fish Hut after a successful day on the water, comparing measurements, congratulating fellow anglers, and checking to see who’s currently leading each category.

The leaderboard can change daily. Or one incredible catch can stand the test of the entire season. Either way, everyone enjoys watching the competition unfold.

Building a New Tradition

Although the Friendly Fish Competition officially began in 2026, we hope it becomes one of those traditions that returning guests look forward to year after year.

Imagine visiting years from now and remembering:

“Wasn’t it here that Grandpa caught that giant walleye?”

Or hearing your kids proudly tell new guests:

“My name was on the Brag Board when I was twelve.”

These are the kinds of memories that become part of a family’s fishing legacy.
